Transfer Station (“Landfill”) Closure – Effective March 31, 2026
The City’s previous contract included vendor staffing of the Transfer Station. During the recent competitive proposal process, it became clear that municipal transfer station operations are not common among comparable Wisconsin communities and that continuing to operate the facility would require substantial additional taxpayer expense. Ultimately, only one vendor was willing to provide staffing — at a significantly higher overall cost.
Rather than pass those increased costs on to residents, the City approved a service model that maintains reliable waste collection while expanding curbside options.
What’s Next: Transition Plan Details
- Large-item pickup expanded from two collections per year to six; Once monthly from April through September (previously April and September only).
- Large-Item Limits: Up to 5 items per pickup, under 50 lbs. each and manageable by one person.
- Additional disposal options available at Town and Country Sanitation drop points in Boscobel or Lone Rock at resident cost.
- Non-City Residents: Please contact your Township Board for details.
